The Roller Coaster Weather Continues
Jun 12, 2011This is my fifteenth year in the golf industry and my sixth season here at Waubeeka as the Golf Course Superintendent. In those 15 years, I have never had a spring with this many extremes weather wise. We have seen everything from 85 degree days in April to 49 degree days in June. Not to mention the 16 straight days without rain followed up by 2.25 inches in the last two days alone.
I have gotten a few questions about the length and thickness of the rough in the past few weeks. All I can say is its very healthy and is being cut at 2.25 inches, which is the same height as in previous years. We have two guys mowing 5 days a week, for a total of 65 hours just on the rough alone. The way I have it set up is we mow 1-9 green surrounds and tee banks on Tuesday and Thursday and 10-18, PG on Monday and Friday. All the rest of the rough is cut at least twice per week and the driving range is being cut every Wednesday morning. Both mowers are set at 2.25 inches, so all the rough flows into each other well. With this schedule we get everything cut twice a week, leaving Wednesday afternoon open to preform preventive maintenance on the rough units to make sure they stay running and cutting well.
If anyone has any questions or concerns on the course conditions or maintenance please don’t hesitate to wave me down on the course or drop me a email at GTudor03@aol.com. Thank you and enjoy the course.

Thanks for the update Greg, very informative.
