What a Great Weekend

Jul 13, 2011

Just wanted to start my post by saying how much fun it was preparing the course for last weekends Member Guest.  My staff and I look forward to getting the course in Tournament Condition for this special event.  A special thanks to my guys for all the long hours and hard work not just for this Tournament, but on a day to day basis as well.  This place wouldn’t look anything like it does without all of your efforts.  I would also like to say thank you to all the Participants who had such positive things to say about the course and its condition.  Seeing everyone out enjoying themselves makes it all worth it for me.

We are at the mid way point of the golf season.  I know it seems hard to believe but here we are with only 4 months left in the golfing season.  Here at the midway point I like to take a look over the entire course and see what is working well and what could use some attention.   What I have noticed is the small forward tees and all the Par Three Tee Complexes don’t have as much turf cover as the rest of the tees on the course.  This is due to the lack of teeing surface in most cases and general wear and tear that starts to show up this time of year.   My focus over the next few weeks (weather dependent) is to start aerating, topdressing and over seeding  the worst tees now and doing all of them again this fall when weather is more favorable.  My plan is to do a few holes a day to keep the disruption to a minimum.   We will be using half inch hollow tines and will be filling the holes with sand and seed followed by a starter fertilizer to help fill in the wear areas with an ultimate goal of having a better surface to play off of.  I plan to do the same procedure on some of the warn low lying spots in the fairways.  Our long term plan is to rebuild all the old tees on the course while at the same time adding additional new tees to help distribute wear better and at the same time give you the golfer different angles and views to the different holes.  The fairway spots will be addressed as well with more drainage being added and changing different slopes to encourage water to drain more easily.  We are still in the planning stages at this point.

Lastly, I hope everyone is enjoying the course conditions and please don’t hesitate to flag me down on the course or drop me an email with any questions or concerns you have with the course.  Thanks,  Greg Tudor, GCS
